As one of the region's leading independent real estate companies, RedKey has always paid close attention to the factors that influence where people choose to live, work, invest, and build their futures. But those decisions are shaped by much more than the housing market alone.

In 2025, RedKey partnered with Washington University in St. Louis to commission a comprehensive study examining regional population trends, migration patterns, housing demand, public policy, and economic development. The research also compared St. Louis to peer Midwestern cities, helping identify both challenges and opportunities for future growth.

The findings sparked important questions: What attracts people to St. Louis? Why do some residents leave while others choose to stay? How can we create greater momentum for growth? What role do housing, transportation, economic development, and quality of life play in shaping our future?

Rather than keeping those conversations within the real estate industry, RedKey saw an
opportunity to bring them to the broader community. Elevating St. Louis was created as a platform for sharing insights, encouraging dialogue, and fostering collaboration around the issues that will define the region's future.
