When rainy weather hits in the St. Louis area, it can be a great opportunity to stay inside and tackle a few DIY projects. Or, if you've been in your home for a few years, it could be a chance to freshen the place up a bit. What projects should you tackle first? Here are a few suggestions.

• Create a Reading Nook
  If you love to curl up with a good book, why not create a cozy reading nook in your home? Find a quiet corner, preferably near a window for natural light, and add a comfortable chair or a cushioned bench. A small side table is great for holding your current read and a cup of tea. Add a soft throw blanket and a few pillows to make the space even more inviting. You could also install a small bookshelf nearby to keep your favorite books within arm's reach. A reading nook is the perfect place to relax, unwind, and escape into a good story on a rainy day.

• Organize Your Closets
  Do your closets look disorganized? You probably need a better system to keep everything in its place. You could add a shelving unit to one corner of the closet, creating space for smaller items like hats, belts, and bags. If your clothes are too packed in, consider adding a second rod. Start by selecting a theme, whether it's travel photos, framed artwork, or a mix of both. Lay out your frames on the floor first to get a sense of spacing and arrangement. Once you're happy with the layout, start hanging your frames. You can use matching frames for a cohesive look or mix and match for an eclectic vibe. This is a project that not only brightens up your space but also creates a meaningful focal point in any room.

• Clean The Fridge
  Pull everything out of the fridge, and give the walls and shelves a good scrub down with baking soda. Pay close attention to the gaskets; wipe them down to remove mold or mildew. Throw away old items and put everything back inside in a more organized manner. You can always add a few plastic baskets to your fridge to help keep items organized.
