Document Your Museum Journey Around St. Louis | RedKey Realty Leaders

On Wednesday, January 17, social media will be flooded with photos of art instead of food as people pose alongside their favorite works on Museum Selfie Day. Head out to these wonderful museums near St. Louis homes for sale with your smartphone in hand.

  • Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis - 3750 Washington Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63108
Art often serves as a window to the world, giving us insight into ourselves and others. The Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis showcases current works that reflect global stories and issues. Unlike many museums, CAM has no permanent collection, allowing them to dedicate their space to focus on works most relevant to today's concerns. One example is Ruta Madre by Justin Favela, a multidisciplinary artist with a Mexican-Guatamalan background. Using St. Louis as a "canvas," Ruta Madre explores the reality of being Latinx in the United States. The exhibition runs through February 11. CAM is open Wednesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., with extended hours until 8 p.m. on Friday. Admission is free.

  • National Blues Museum - 615 Washington Ave., St. Louis, MO 63101
Much like visual arts, blues music comes from the soul. See how this auditory art has been woven into the fabric of our society at the National Blues Museum. Four separate exhibits document the evolution of the blues from 1900 through the 2000s, with interactive features that allow a hands-on experience. Check the website for a schedule of live performances in the state-of-the-art Legends Room. Museum hours are 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. daily. Admission is $10-$15.

  • Laclede's Landing Wax Museum - 720 N. 2nd St., St. Louis, MO 63102
Snap a selfie alongside the likes of Mr. Spock and Marilyn Monroe at Laclede's Landing Wax Museum. Housed in an 1885 building listed as a National Historic Monument, the museum displays more than 250 life-size wax figures, ranging from presidents and movie stars to superheroes and movie monsters. Be sure to make time for a stop at the in-house ice cream shop. Hours are 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. Thursday through Sunday, and admission is $10.

  • Saint Louis Art Museum - One Fine Arts Drive, St. Louis, MO 63110
After nearly 150 years, the Saint Louis Art Museum continues to delight, educate, and inspire locals and visitors. At its inception, SLAM consisted of a modest collection of plaster casts and electrotype reproductions. Over time, SLAM's collection expanded to include more than 36,000 works from five millennia across six continents. The museum also spotlights traveling exhibitions such as Aso Oke: Prestige Cloth from Nigeria, which runs through March 10. SLAM is open 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday and 10 a.m. - 9 p.m. Friday. General admission is free, with tickets required for special exhibitions. Friday is free admission for all areas.

  • Pulitzer Arts Foundation - 3716 Washington Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63108
Chances are you've never been to a museum like the Pulitzer Arts Foundation. In contrast to other museums, the Pulitzer is not a collection-based museum. Rather, it serves as an incubator to stimulate conversation and light creative sparks. The galleries host world-class exhibitions of visual and performing arts, including music, dance, and reading. Even the Pulitzer building, a striking architectural landmark designed by Tadao Ando, is a dazzling work of art. Hours are 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Thursday, 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. Friday, and 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. weekends. Admission is free.
